My other blog!
Just a quick note to say that I have a much more active blog over at Diary Of A Vintage Girl, which features tons of pictures of my vintage styles, both modelling and candid, and general news. So come on over!

Sorry if you have seen this already
...I have been rather blathering on about it. But!

I'm in the first ever 21st Century Pinups contest!
If any of you gorgeous things that read this (and haven't voted already) happen to have a moment, would you mind awfully going here and voting for me to win in the Pinup Queen category? You don't have to enter your email or sign up for anything, and luckily it's not one of those 'vote once a day' type affairs, which drive me barmy.

You do have to vote in the other 3 categories too though, I think. There are some truly great models in my category, so I need all the help I can get! Thank you all!

In other news, I have been having a go at making my own photos look vintage. What do you think?

In other other news, my cats are annoying! Not only do they have fleas (and I've run out of Frontline), but they will NOT keep their collars on. I bought them both a new one yesterday, a new stretchy but buckled type (the snap away ones just, well, snap away!) and new ID tags, and when I woke up, one had lost his, and by the time I'd finished my breakfast, so had the other! Furry little blighters!

I have some more shoot pictures and some recent purchases to post, so please check back soon!

More weddings, part 1.
This summer has been a whirlwind of wedding and hen parties. I feel like I am now sufficiently experienced to be able to start up my own business as a freelance professional wedding guest. I promise to turn up impeccably dressed and coiffed, bearing a tasteful card and will abstain from excessive drinking. I will also dance a fair amount, ensuring others get up on the floor. Any takers? ;)

Three weeks ago, saw the wedding of my very good friend Jo. She asked me if I would do her hair for the occasion, and despite having never done hair on anyone else, I am always up for a challenge so I agreed. I went up the night before and set it all, hoping and praying it would turn out nicely. And it did! Or at least, I thought so.

I also recently bought my very first 'proper' camera, and used Jo's wedding as an excuse to practice taking photos, and generally learning how to use it.

Some shots of the lovely bride and groom:

For the occasion, I wore one of my favourite dresses, which I think is from the late 40s or so, and was deadstock when I bought it. It didn't have a proper label, only a paper size one which dissolved in the wash. It's actually a house-dress which wraps around, but let's face it, vintage house-dresses are nicer than most modern party dresses! I set my hair using my usual sponge rollers, but put a big faux bang in the front, using a rat. I think it turned out well, too!

Jo gave me a beautiful pair of vintage earrings as a thank-you - you can see them in the above photo!

They had a lovely cupcake-wedding cake, all beautifully decorated by Steve's mum and sisters. Deelicious!

Om nom.

A more perfect couple there never was! Except, perhaps, for Stacey and Simon! Here are Stacey and Simon at Jo's wedding:

Simon told me that was his "wedding photo face". They got married on Saturday, and you will be glad to hear he didn't pull it in his own wedding photos! I will write a whole separate blog about them shortly. :)

Some more waffle and pics
So Comic-Con is over for another year, and I have to again live vicariously through photos. I hope I will get to go again one day! I do hope everyone had fun.

Back to my 'exciting' life, weekend just gone I went down to Folkestone to take part in a fantastic Bathing Beauties Parade. We were all supposed to be competing for the title of 'Miss Club Shepway 2008', but actually it was all pre-arranged, and we all took home a title. The other girls were mostly burlesque artistes and therefore had way more skills than a lowly poseur like me!

Oh and one final one! My favourite! By John Evans.

This weekend I had to put my car in for a service and MOT. I only bought it last year, and it's only 5 years old, with 25,000 miles on the clock, so I wasn't expecting anything major to come of it. So when the garage phoned me up, and the guy was all hesitant, I started to get worried! He asked me, did I by any chance still have a warranty on my car? Well actually, I hadn't realised I had - but when I fished out my MOT certificate, I found that I did indeed have a warranty, with 5 days left on it. Oh good, the man said, because you need a new steering rack, which costs £400, plus labour...and you're covered!

When does that ever happen? Usually it's 5 days -out- of warranty or something! Still cost me £250 for service, MOT and two tires, grumble grumble. But a damn sight better than £650!

In other news, I now have a website! Miss Fleur de Guerre is online! I'm so over-the-moon about it, it's really the perfect site for me. I adore the design and it's easy to use, and easy to update! Now I'm just going to sit quietly and keep my fingers crossed that I'll be 'discovered' haha. Well, you never know, do you?

Check it out, if you haven't already! And if you fancy linking to my site from yours, here's the banner! Let me know if you do and I would be more than happy to return the favour. :) It's at www.fleurdeguerre.com or click the banner to visit!

Finally, there are a few new shots on my Myspace page, which will be added to my site soon, including a couple more from my shoot with Sean Kelly, which I'm delighted with, and some from the master of strange and surrealist photographs, Russell Lewis.

Photos galore
So I did a whole three, THREE photoshoots last weekend. It's made me realise, finally, that doing shoots just for the sake of it is pointless, that it's quality not quantity that counts. Point being, by the third shoot, I was knackered, and it showed. My poses were crap, my expressions unflattering, and to make it worse the photographer accidentally shot the whole thing in medium-res, making it a bit pointless as the whole idea was to produce photos for the company that lent us clothes.

Oh well. You live and learn. Anyway, here are some of the best, so far. (image heavy!)

A picture update!
Here are some pics from my most recent photoshoot. These were inspired by studio pics of my personal icon, Rita Hayworth... The original picture I was inspired by is this one:

Unfortunately I lack Rita's lovely long hair and skinny thighs! But I wasn't trying to create a direct copy of the picture, more of an homage. So let me know what you think.

On to the picturesCollapse )

I hope you enjoy them.

amusing, time-wasting meme
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

Eglington Cemetery

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

"Either this man is dead, or my watch has stopped."
Groucho Marx

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover

4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, then post the result.

And for the tracklisting...
1. Go to the Wikipedia home page and click "random article"
2. Click random article 15 more times; those are the tracks on your album.
3. The picture is the third on refreshed flickr list...
I had to cheat - the first couple of refreshes produced pis that were non-saveable!

Adventures in Jersey!
So this weekend, I went to Jersey. I ate the WORST BBQ food I've ever had, drunk multiple alcoholic beverages including Black Death, Springboks (baileys and creme de menthe), Wrongbow and possibly others. I ate far too much bacon, egg, chips and beans. I got a huge toothpaste stain on my dress, wah. But it was great fun!

Some piccies follow!

Why can't all websites ship abroad? And take Paypal? I am missing out of the cutest pair of shoes that cost only $19.99 because the stupid site won't let me enter my foreign address in the billing section, even so I can get them sent to the US to be sent on to me! Anyone american fancy ordering them for me? I will PayPal you the money! Pretty please?

New Year's post
So, at the end of December I started a brand new job at Reader's Digest *waves at peake* and everything is going really well...not that I have had anything to do yet, really. But I get the feeling they are easing me in gently and all hell will break loose soon!

The year ended without a bang as we had our new year's celebrations on the Saturday night and spend NYE at my friends' house having a quiet evening watching Garth Marenghi and playing Kerplunk and the Rizla game (you know, when you stick a rizla bearing the name of a random character/celebrity. I think I made it too easy on Jamie by giving him "Skipper the Eyechild" given that we'd watched that very episode earlier.

Lots of things coming up this year, mostly comics related holidays as per usual - Angoulême in a couple of weeks and San Diego for Comicon in July, which I am already looking forward to.

My vintage obsession is becoming a problem for my bank account but I am determined to continue with it until I can truly look the part every day. Here's to a retro 2007!

Who's seen this?

It's pretty unbelievable, and nauseating. OJ Simpson has written a book about if he had hypothetically committed those murders. I like that the "if" is whited out, but whose choice was that? I can't believe it actually got published and will make money for OJ. I'd like to hypothetically lamp him in the knackers!
